Chapter 09.3

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you the news, according to the latest ultrasound, Laura is having a boy! Isn’t that exciting? She and Nathan are dancing on the ceiling. He really wanted a boy and has finally gotten his wish. Mom has already started making a baby quilt. It’s a block quilt, done in shades of green, and has the ABCs stenciled on the blocks. You’ll be impressed when you see the finished product. I’ll send you a couple of pictures of the quilt and the stuffed animals I bought for the baby (couldn’t resist them). You know, I still have the one Mom made for Rich when he was a baby. That seems like so long ago, but only yesterday. Maybe a little bit of both. Does that make any sense? I guess it really doesn’t have to. A mom can feel both.

I’ve composed another little ditty for your reading pleasure since you enjoyed the tanka I sent you on our anniversary. I know it doesn’t compare with your clever lines. I think as long as it tells you my story, all is well…

Now I lay me down to sleep,
Wishing my husband was here to keep,
While I lie here wide awake,
For him my body does softly ache.

I really do miss you so very much. It is hard to sleep in that big bed and not have you next to me, breathing softly – or snoring. I don’t even mind the snoring, because it means you are there. I know I’ve said that before and can’t help but say it again. We have never been apart this long. And, especially, never gone so long without joining in the oldest of dances. It doesn’t matter whether we’re caught up in a gentle waltz and floating along, or fused together in a fiery tango with clothes all asunder. Even hard rock would feel good, you rocking me in your arms, you rocking inside me until we explode. After, we’ll drift off to sleep to a lullaby, wake the next morning at first light, the music will play, and we’ll dance. I’m giving you fair warning: be sure to get plenty of rest. When you come home to me, I plan to dance with you until dawn.

I’ll let you go now. Since you’re not here, in the morning it’s off to school and having the pleasure of enlightening young minds. They’re a lot of fun and I’ll keep you informed about our projects. This is a whole new class and who knows what they’ll come up with this year. Write soon. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.

All of my love
Your M
