I love ’em.

< ≡ ♂ ≡ >

With a big sigh, Mike clicked off of the email screen, shut his laptop and abandoned the thug-persona that always made Jackie laugh and, more often than not, led to a pleasurable romp in their big California king-sized waterbed. Mike makes his living as a drug dealer and spends much of his time on the streets. At least, that’s the family joke. He is really a traveling sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. He and Jackie met, while she was interning at Bethesda’s National Naval Medical Center, outside of Washington, D.C., and he was there drumming up business.

One glimpse of Jackie’s well toned, tall, slender body and fashion model beauty, and Mike was hooked. She received her tall frame from her African-American father and her smooth complexion and almond eyes from her Chinese mother.

Born in China during her father’s term of appointment as a U.S. Envoy of China, to her Chinese physician mother, Jackie is blessed with dual citizenship, which allowed her to live in either country. She lived in China until she was seven, when the family moved to the U.S. At fifteen, she had been a gymnast in the 2004 Olympics, although her entire team was disqualified due to ‘doping’ allegations against their trainer.

Although she was innocent, the brush of accusation had smeared Jackie and her teammates. After the heartbreak and trauma of not being allowed to complete the competition in ’04, Jackie’s parents applauded her decision to stay with family friends near Beijing to continue her training.

During the three and a half years prior to the ’08 games, Jackie was granted permission to train with the Chinese gymnasts. As a dual citizen, Jackie became a member of the Chinese delegation, taking two Gold and two Silver medals in gymnastics, her specialty being the Uneven Bars.

Athletically, Mike is no slouch, either. With a whip-thin physique, at 6’1″ and 185 pounds, he had played college basketball and still enjoyed running whenever he could find the time. Although five years her senior, he didn’t look anywhere near his actual years. Mike was often carded at the bars well into his late twenties. Mike and Jackie dated for nearly eight months before he confessed his true age. When he finally did, she asked to inspect his driver’s license before she would believe his story. And that, of course, was a tremendous boost to his male ego.

Mike likes working as a traveling sales representative and visiting different parts of the country. He says the biggest perk is being able to occasionally slip away from his job for several days. No one would miss him being gone, as they might if working with him in an office. He could disappear for a long romantic weekend with Jackie, anytime he wants.

From: Emma Devlin
Subject: Hello
Date: May 13, 2018 7: 31p.m.
To: Brandon Devlin

(CLT): 4.92 sec

Hello, Sweetheart,

It is wonderful to hear from you. It already seems like you’ve been gone for weeks, but it’s only been two days. I arrived home from the launch this afternoon, it’s back to school tomorrow. I’m glad things are going so well and I can relate to the excitement. I wouldn’t be able to sleep with all that is going on up there, either.

Last week, one of the children in my class asked if you were going to live on Mars and meet little green men. He’s the funny one in the class (kind of reminds me of you). How to use the bathroom was also a big concern. So, you can see that the youngsters are very curious. I’m going to write down some of their questions and send them to you. It would be wonderful if you would send back answers. Receiving mail from space would be thrilling to them and generate many follow up questions. I’m sure they’ll want to know more about the rover and your Martian calendar, as well as any little green you happen to stumble upon. Who knows, perhaps we’ll be educating future astronauts. Wouldn’t that be something!

I’m overjoyed for you and looking forward to hearing about the fantastic achievements to come from this mission. I miss you terribly and am especially lonely after dinner. This was the time we shared and chatted about our day. There will be much to talk about when you return home and are in my arms. That is, after we get reacquainted. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and I am especially fond of you.

Today, on our special day, I am missing you more than ever. Over the years, we’ve managed to celebrate most of our anniversaries together. Many couples in the space program haven’t had that luxury, so I feel blessed. Of all your anniversary gifts, those most dear to me have been in verse. So, in celebration I have composed a poem for you. It’s an unusual form called a tanka and I hope you like it. A tanka is kind of like a haiku but adds 2 more lines of 7 syllables each. Happy Anniversary to my husband: my only love.

Cherish

This day comes each year
My heart was captivated
By your wit and charm
Joyful tears spilling as I
Tenderly cherish your love

Forever yours, Emma

< ≡ ♂ ≡ >

Sunday, May 13, 2018 (Johnday, Sagittarius 27, 0031) From: Mike Miller Subject: Missin’ ya so much Date: May 13, 2018 4:30 p.m. To: Dr. Jacquelyn Miller (CLT): 4.66 sec Jackie, I’m already missin’ ya so much, babe, that it hurts.
